Dr. Colin Ross, MD
Instructor, Trauma Model Therapy
Dr. Colin Ross is the Creator of Trauma Model Therapy. Dr. Colin Ross is an internationally renowned clinician, researcher, author and lecturer in the field of dissociation and trauma-related disorders. He is the Founder and President of The Colin A. Ross Institute for Psychological Trauma. Dr. Ross obtained his M.D. from the University of Alberta in 1981 and completed his training in psychiatry at the University of Manitoba in 1985.
The Ross Institute can consult with programs that are based on the Trauma Model of psychopathology and Dr. Ross's Trauma Model Therapy. According to this model, trauma is a major risk factor for many types of mental disorders and needs to be addressed in treatment. Many testable scientific predictions follow from the model, as outlined in Dr. Ross's publications.
Dr. Ross is a prolific author who has authored 38 books and over 290 professional papers, has reviewed for numerous professional journals and grant agencies, and is a past President of the International Society for the Study of Trauma and Dissociation (ISST-D). In 2018, he was awarded the ISST-D Lifetime Achievement Award. He has many interests and enjoys exploring complicated topics. He has appeared in a number of television documentaries and has published essays, aphorisms, poetry, short stories, and screenplays. He also consulted for the drama series, United States of Tara, with Collette.
He is the Founder of Manitou Communications. Dr. Ross's book, The Trauma Model: A Solution To the Problem of Comorbidity in Psychiatry, was first published in 2000, with a second edition appearing in 2007.
